Book Review - Love is a Wounded Soldier - Blaine Reimer

Love is a Wounded Soldier
Title:      Love is a Wounded Soldier

Author:  Blaine Reimer

Review:  This is as well a written book as any I have read.  As the character developed, we watch him grow from a young man full of dreams to a jaded, emotionally starved soldier as he faces war in all its ugliness.  After the war, as Robert returns home scared, maimed physically as well as emotionally , the ideal life he thought he was returning to is now gone.  How he deals with this, and is finally able to move on from the terrible memories that plague him is very moving.  I recommend this book to anyone who has truly lived life, felt its pain and lived its joy.

*warning- the language in this book is rough but the story is worth it.

Thank you Eileen for this review.

Synopsis:   Love is a Wounded Soldier combines the old-fashioned romance of a Nicholas Sparks novel with all the gut-punching grit of Saving Private Ryan to bring you a story of heartbreak and hope.
Despite growing up with an abusive, alcoholic father, and having to cope with the untimely death of his mother, Robert Mattox has retained his innocence and idealism. He woos and marries his first love, Ellen, and it appears his life is set for a happily-ever-after ending.
But World War II is raging, and its vortex snatches him away from his young bride. He finds himself fighting in Europe, witnessing and participating in the unspeakable ugliness and brutality of war. His love for Ellen holds him back from utter despondency, and his will to fight and live draws strength from his desire to return home to her.
When he finally does return home to Kentucky, he’s exhausted, jaded, and scarred—inside and out. His worst fear is how Ellen will respond to the changes in him, but when he gets home he finds that Ellen is different, too—much different.
Can things between them ever be the same again? Or will their love be the war’s most tragic casualty?

Author Biography:  I enjoy creating anything that's beautiful, humorous, clever or profound. If you write something that doesn't trigger emotion, all you've done is string together words.
I have a short attention span. I will probably never write a similar novel to Love is a Wounded Soldier. I may never write another novel at all. I may write music, poetry, a TV sitcom, satire, or standup comedy. It's anyone's guess. Or maybe I won't write anything. It's anyone's guess. I'm pretty sure I'll always like the smell of gasoline, though.

  1. This is a very good book. I felt I was there throughout. It was so realestic. It was hard for me to put down. I don't care for the foul language and feel more people would read it if that was left out. Not necessary for such a historical novel.
